May 9 -- Xu Shuanglong From Shanghai:

We have got met in suzhou on 30 April. Seventeen classmates gathered. At the first day we took the cruiser around the Taihu Lake for more than two hours when we talked each other from the latest situation to the topics interested.

It was a sunny day. Looking outside from the cruiser, you could see nothing but sometimes a little boat or small island and you might remember our university's life. At night we enjoyed much, some persons played billiards and bolling and others played KaraO.K.

After that some people continued playing cards etc. through the night just like the students' life in Fudan. In general, we enjoyed our reunion. And we hope the next more classmates gathering.

May 11 -- Li Chengwen from England:

Two days after our classmates' reunion in Suzhou, I took my kid to Uk, this time for reunion with my wife. The boy will stay here with his mother untill September, 2000. I will go back to China at 16th of May.

Here in Aberystwyth, a small town in Wales, my family read with great pleasure the web pages you design for our classmates.

June 30 - Lu Ding from Shanghai: I talked to Hong Wen Da over phone today and learned that Prof. Chen Guan Lie just passed away last night from a blood disease.

June 30 - Steve Shi from California:

Prof. Chen is my favorite teacher. I am very sad for this news. I tried to reach Prof Chen since last year. But now he left the world...

 July 2 - Lian Hui:

I am sad to learn the passing away of Professor Chen Guan Lie. He was not only my favorite professor but also the advisor for my graduation thesis. I benefited tremendously from his insight, guidance, encouragement and kindness.

July 2 - Jesse Li from San Francisco:

I still vividly remember these days when Professor Chen visited Hawaii in 1985. I took him along the island for three days, and arranged a presentation in Eastwest Center and met his Harvard classmates. He told me he was so proud of 7926 and considered 7926 class was the most outstanding class after restoring university education system... Now he left us. We miss him...

July 2 - Lu Ding from Shanghai:

Here is more about Chen's passaway. He had suffered from blood cancer for some time and knew his days were numbered. So he made his will and made arrangement for his death. He wanted to follow the Song Cheng Xian's model (Song passed away about a year ago): No ceremony, no memorial service, no official event, etc. Just to be quietly cremated.

According to his will, on the 100th day after his death, a small seminar will be held in Fudan and his friends will discuss his academic works and thoughts.

All his children live and work in the US.

July 3 - Qing Zhou Xin's new email address: chon90@yahoo.com

July 4 - Qi Qi (Steve) from Los Angeles:

Of all the professors we had at Fudan, Professor Chen is probably the best: prestigously educated yet unpretentious, highly positioned yet personable. I am not surprised that he liked 7926 the best, because we liked him most - at least that's how I feel.

July 7 - Lu Ding from Shanghai:

Last night, Wang Zhan, Wang Yu, Zhang Songhao, Xu Shuanglong, Yang Hongjun, and Feng Jun met in Jin Chen Resturant.

Prof. Hong Wen Da and I went to meet Wang Zhan and others in Jin Chen resturant together. It was a pleasant surprise to them. He said the first World Economy class was the best. It was also very impressive that Prof. Hong (in his late 70s) is still so healthy (despite being a chain-smoker) and of good memory. He remembers almost all the 7926 guys sitting around the table and talked about some interesting 7926 stories. Wang Yu took some photos of the meeting and promised to send Steve e-copies for the web site.

 July 20 - Steve Shi:

From today, our web hosting changes to a new service - www.amhosting.com.

Thanks for Tim Wang's information & James Gu one year hosting service.

August 13 - Yu Wei sent 3 pictures, shared with us. Please enjoy.    Yu Wei

 August 15 - Wang Yu:

During my one month vacation in Shanghai, the most regretful thing I have is that I missed the opportunity to attend Prof. Chen's funeral ceremony. Yet I heard it from Li Chenwen and saw it only on Jiang Xiaoming's laptop at his apartment in Beijing. I got some update from a get together with my graduate class.

A funeral ceremony was actually held for Prof. Chen. It was a small size one and restricted to his relatives and his students. About 30 people attended. Two of my classmates were there. The ceremony is in a form of Christian style. He bears a cross, and it is his sound will.

Aug. 9 - Steve Shi: Suggestion for 2003 Reunion

In 1999 & 2000, more than 12 classmates suggested we would have a 7926 classmate reunion in Shanghai in 2003. At that time - 7/2003, we will have been leaving our college (Fudan Univ.) for 20 years.

My dear freind, how many 20 years do we have in our life? We are getting older & older... Do you like spending your time (1 week or 2 weeks) to enjoy 7926 Classmates Reunion?

 8-10-2001 -- Jesse Li:

I would like to update the situation of Wang Guang Hua's family. I have been talking with his wife and kids at least once a month since "Old Wang" left us two years ago. I try my best to provide any advice she may needs to help her running the family. Cathy (Old Wang's wife) is very strong to live with the current situation raising two kids. She wants me telling everyone how much she is appreciated with 7926's support. She is doing well. Several months ago she was promoted as an assistant manager in her company.

Old Wang's elder son has been pre accepted in John Hopukins University, even he is only in the first year of the high school. Cathy said she has overcome the most difficult time. The law suit is still in the process. It probably will take five to six years settling the case since this is a big case relating life and death. I will keep you informed the development of the case.

 8-11-2001 -- Wang Xincai:

I visited our dorm building with Guo Hongsheng when I was in Shanghai last month.

The dorms looks bad. The wooden floors had been replaced by cement floors. Each room has a tel line on the door frame. Still the old desks and old wall bookshelves. We stayed at room 309 for a while and had a nice chat with the world econ 98th class students. What impressed us is that they were not certain about futures. To find a good job largely depends on luck or guanxi.

In June, when I visited Paris and London, I contacted with Feng Mujing. Her new e-mail address: mujing.fengwang@wanadoo.fr.

 8-16-2001 -- Jesse li:

I have good news to report. Finally we get a leader from our oversea camp. Yu Wei (Julius) is graciously willing to take the leadership on planning the 2003 reunion. Everyone is encouraged to join his team to contribute ideas, leg works and so on. Now we are waiting for our leader in China side to emerge. Let's get the momentum going.

Cheers!

 8-26-2001 -- Jesse li:

I just talked with Yang Lu Jun on the phone. His e-mail address is lokwan@citiz.net. Please add his e-mail to your contact list. He is very glad to know about 2003 reunion. We still need to work hard to find the other classmates whom we lost the contact.

8-27-2001 -- Yu Wei (Julius): NewsLetter 2 for 2003 Reunion

Great news from Shanghai ! I have contacted Feng Jun and Xu Shuang-long. Feng Jun will be my counterpart in Shanghai together with Shuang-long and Wang Zhan to organize this wonderful event!

We all know that a big chunk of preparation, arrangement work for Y2003 Shanghai Reunion will have to be done in Shanghai by our Shanghai 7926 folks. So, let's give them a big applause for taking on this important job!

9-11-2001 -- Lian Hui from Washington DC

Today is the day of terror, which changed the New York's landscape, perhaps America's, forever. Within half hour, The World Trade Center disappeared after terrorist attacks. Our prayers go to the families and victims.

I somehow remember Wang Xingcai's autobiography in his website that he has an office in the World Trade Center. I am just praying that he is still in China. Tim, if you see this email, please reply to let us know you are fine. Anyone who knows his whereabouts please share the information with us as soon as you can.

9-13-2001 -- Wang Xingcai from China

I am indeed in China, still sound and safe! My small office at Two World Trade Center was gone forever.

My friends working in the WTC towers are all safe. One of them is a girl, who climbed down from 56th floor of the Tower 1 yesterday. One World Trade Center standed longer after hitting. I would guess she would not have such luck if her office were in the Two World Trade Center. I was in the One World Trade Center in the 1993 blast of the underground parking lot. Eight years is the same time as the anti-japanese war.

 9-15-2001 -- Yu Wei

Each time I saw on TV replay of the jets crashing into the two beautiful twin towers and their collapse, I felt my heart in such pain.

All civilized people and human generations will never forget such brutal attack and the horror of the scene! Like someone commented, this was not just the attack on US, it is the attack on the human civilization and modern world.

The world will remember this day of horror and tragedy.
