pictures. Happy New Year!
1-8-2003 -- Lu Ding: I have been in Victoria
to organize a conference in March. Li Qing and kids were here for holiday and
now back to Singapore.
2-4-2003 -- Wang Xingcai: I won't be able to
attend the reunion at the end of July since my wife will have a baby that time.
2-6-2003 -- See a new picture in 1/2003: Yang
Lujun, Yu Jianping, Feng Jun, Li Chenwen & Wang Xing Cai in Beijing

Schedule
3-14-2003 -- Xu Shuanglong from Shanghai:
I just called by Wang Zhan. He would visit Austrailia from the end of June &
back to Shanghai on 7th July for his business trip(Government mission). So it's
difficult for him to join reunion. He said he would practise his promise of
arrangement for us to Qingpu.
I discussed it with Fen Jun. Our opinion is consulting with you, how should
we do? My view is shall we postpone our date for one week, that is from 11th
of July. The reason is Wang Zhan wants to join us because he couldn't arrange
his date by himself. Of course we should discuss with guys in US. I think you'd
better to talk person to person, not to let everybody knows first. Finally we
should let everybody knows. Guys in shanghai have no problem for postponing.
3-15-2003 -- Xu Shuanglong's telephone #: 86-21-5506-1966
3-16-2003 -- Lu Ding: Dear Yu Wei: Just called
Qing, who said that our T-shirt size should be L amd M. Please put your record
right.
4-25-2003 -- Xingcai:
We had better call this meeting off unless situation gets better in near future.
Now Beijing's figure is quite shocking.
4-25-2003 -- Feng Mujing:
Hi all, After recent news about SARS in China, I decide to give up my summer
travel. I think even local persons will have to avoid any meeting. It's a real
damage! Many of you have worked so hard to prepare this reunion.
Anyway, I agree to pay my part of fees engaged eventually by our reunion organisers
in China.
This summer, most European people will stay on their continent. I'm looking
for summer activities for my children in France. Let's hope no more war, no
longer SARS period, and soon we can travel again without constrains, and we
can once more be together ....
4-28-2003 -- Lian Hui:
It's probably a right thing to do. I personally will cancel my plane ticket
when I return to U.S. I am sorry and sad but we have to face the challenge from
the fate. Many thanks to Yuwei, Fengjun, and Xu Suanglong. My prayers and best
wishes go to the friends in China and in other affected areas. God bless everyone
of us.
If there are any outstanding financial charges or fees please let us know. For
the moment I can think of expenses related to t-shirt. I don't know whether
there are any cancellation charges related to hotel bookings in Qingpu. Take
care, everyone. We'll go through this OK, and have our happy moment someday
in the future.
4-29-2003 -- Xialian Liu:
I think that it is futile to cretsize and mock at the Chinese government at
this time. Anger and frustration is conterproductive to combat the disease.
What we need is to support our government and people, especially the health
care providers, financially or spiriually. Just like the American people support
their troops evne though a lot of people were against the war itself.
6-13-2003 -- Xu Shuanglong:
Feng Jun, Zhang Songhao and me have discussed our gathering in Fudan. It will
be at 19th of July(Saturday). We planned to have a meeting
together with teachers who want to join our gathering. After that we may go
to a resort hotel(near Qingpu)to hold a night party. Attenders can enjoy student's
life as they like(playing cards).
Attenders may reach to 15 people. The list is: Wang Zhan, Fengjun,
Zhang Songhao, Yanghong Jun, Yang Lujun, Guo hongsheng, Zhang Yining, Gu Xiaolu
Yu Jianping, Li Chengwen, Wang Xincai, Xie Xiang, Xu Shuanglong, Tan Ming. Jiang
Xiaoming has't desided to join us or not. If anyone who lives abroad
is in shanghai by chance at that time, you will be welcomed to join us.
We will take photos and vedios and attach them at intenet. And let those of
7926s who don't attend our gathering to share our memorial. SARS is now undercontrol
in Shanghai. And may be undercontrol in Beijing by July. Shanghaiese feared
it timely (maybe 2 weeks), after that we only take care when we go outside.
I took mask only 2 times. The situition in shanghai didn't like part of media
described. Although the media in china is not fully-free, sometime it will report
reality. Anyway, I'll let you know the latest situation about reunion. If there
are any suggestions pls let me know.
7-8-2003 -- Xu Shuanglong:
There is a suggestion about making a fund for our reunion. After a discussion
by some Shanghainese we suggest 3000yuan(RMB)/one share. If there is any sponsor
he would be welcomed. Until now there are 3 sponsors--Gu Xiaolu, Tan Ming and
Jiang Xiaoming. I'm told that Guo Hongsheng is considering.
Reunion will be held at 19th July in Fudan Uni. There will be 16 guys and 13
teachers to attend .
7-19-2003 --
We, 7926 had a wonderful Shanghai 2003 Reunion. Today we met teachers & went
to Fudan Univ. Wang Zhan, Fengjun, Zhang Songhao, Yanghong
Jun, Yang Lujun, Guo hongsheng, Zhang Yining, Gu Xiaolu, Yu Jianping, Li Chengwen,
Xie Xiang, Xu Shuanglong, Tan Ming, Wu yizhong, Yang Hongjun, Shi Zhangchu
joined this event. Xu Shuanglong brought reunion T-Shirts, gave one to every
teacher. It was a very good quality.
7-20-2003 -- Xu Shuanglong:
We had a good time in Sunny Island Resort in Qing Pu. We will give you the details
later.
7-25-2003 -- Yu Wei:
Very happy to see the photos from 7926 Reunion! So many faces that are familiar
to all of us and it seems we just left Fudan yesterday !
One feeling occurring to me was that majority of folks have their hair turned
grey, a reminder to all of us that time flies. Some folks seem put on quite
a lot weight ever since -- too many dinner party and/or too much cholesterol?
One suggestion, is there a way to put all the reunion photos onto CDs? Then
we can have folks travel to China bring them back to US and other countries
and mail to folks outside China. Burning CD should be very easy. Or Steve can
bring all the photos back and I can burn them onto CDs for mailing. Again, very
happy to see you all !
7-26-2003 -- Lian Hui:
You all look great! Many of you still look young and fresh. I personally think
Tan Ming should be awarded as the "Mr.best photo-lensed"(Zui4 Shang4 Jing4 Xan1
Sheng1)- a no small achievement, Mr. Wu Xinghong as "Mr. Best Preserved", Yang
Lujun as the "Mr. best-nutritioned", and Wang Zhan as the "Mr. best triumph
over experience." You may disagree to my observation. Nevertheless it is one
woman's view.
7-28-2003 -- Wang Xincai:
Another reunion. Good idea! Really could not wait for another 10 years (we might
retire after 10 years). I would suggest we have another renion in Beijing in
2008.
7-28-2003 -- Shi Zhangchu:
2003 Shanghai Reunion ended; I had a wonderful time with all (16) classmates.
Although I spent two days for reunion, the air ticket were worth it... That
event would give me a very good memory.
Thanks for Reunion's organizers: Feng Jun, Xu Shuang Long, Wang
Zhan... I enjoyed it very much! It's very hard to meet all friends &
teachers at the same time.
May 27, 2005, Fudan will celebrate her 100 years. The Fudan authority would
welcome the schoolmates all over the world. Zhang Qisan (Vice Chairman of World
Economy Dept.) let me to tell everyone: Welcome back to Fudan in May 2003!
I designed two web pages for you. Later I will show you more.

info, please let me or Shuang Long know.
7-29-2003 -- Liu Xialain :
Thanks for showing us more wonderful pictures. The pictures have brought back
nice memories we had when we were in Fudan. Although I didn't make it, I really
appreciate Fen Jun, Xu Shuang Long, Wang Zhan...coordinated the event. Also
thanks to those who attended the event and made it successful.
8-10-2003 -- Qi Qi:
I like the pictures and captions Steven put in there. I can almost hear the
laughter and yelling and hollering. You simply don't get these kind of excitement
during your normal daily life.
The reunion is one of the most exciting experience in the life of our 7926 classmates
and I feel fortunate to be a part of the group and cherish the long lasting
friendship among all of us. Too bad I could not make it due to conflicting schedule
of my Bar preparation and Exam after finishing my four years of law school and
celebrating the graduation in mid-May.
I guess I am the last one in our group who was still working towards an academic
degree, in my case, a Juris Doctor's degree. Although it's kind of late to get
a degree like that, I truly value and appreciate the opportunity to study the
laws of the United States, especially the Constitutional Law which helped me
better understand the founding principles of the most powerful country in the
world. Once I passed the bar in California, I can truly say that I have realized
the American Dream.
8-12-2003 -- Lu Ding:
Just want to report to you what I have observed from Hong Wenda's conference.
In the memory of most 7926 folks, Hong Wenda was the professor of Lenin's Imperialist
Theory and a preacher of "dying capitalism". In fact, he was only doing the
job assigned to him at that time.
At the conference-cum-birthday-party, chaired by Wang Zhan, many of his friends
and students described him as the most liberal-minded and student-friendly professor
among the old generation of scholars in Fudan.
At the end of the conference, Hong gave a replying speech, in which he expressed
thanks to three parties. First, it was for his wife. In the time of 1957 anti-rightist
campaign, Hong was purged as a "rightist" for his critique to "Marxist fanaticism
and fundamentalism". (Before that he was a rising star as a government economist
in East China Bureau). In the years of being a "rightist", many abandoned him.
Only his wife decided to stay with him and gave him the support that helped
him to survive. (He said "these words may offend some of those sitting here,
but unfortunately that was the truth.")
Second, he thanked his students, whose "liberal and active minds have kept myself
spiritually alive without being obsoleted" (in his own words). He aknowledged
that he had learned a lot from the younger people, especially those who entered
Fudan after the Cultural Revolution (with several vivid examples).
Finally, he thanked the Chinese Communist Party, not for the disasters it brought
to the Nation, the People and his own life, but for its "eventual return to
the practice of letting truth be verified by facts (Shi2Shi4Qiu2Shi4)". He then
go on talking about the many man-made disasters in the PRC's history. "If the
CCP did not return to ShiShiQiuShi, I would not have survived and reached this
age", concluded him. He wished that CCP would not only continue to practice
ShiShiQiuShi, but also Yu3Shi2Bing4Jin4 (renovate with the development of events).
The President of Fudan University presented a plaque to Prof. Hong. On his own
suggestion, the words "ShiShiQiuShi, YuShiBingJin" were carved on the plaque.

Have anyone thought about if we want to do some "make-up" event to get together
somewhere, sometime next year?
9-2-2003 -- Lu Ding:
We have recently moved (in Singapore) and the new phone number is (65)63163558.
11-24-2003 -- Steve Shi:
Qi Qi (Steve) passed Bar Examination of USA! Congratulation! We will have a
new lawyer! Qi Qi, we are proud of you!
12-3-2003 -- Qi Qi:
It's heart-warming to be on the receiving end of the congrats for the past weeks.
When you get these congrats from some unexpected acqaintances, you know the
news had reached somewhere afar. Thank you, Zhangchu, for announcing the news
to my beloved 7926 folks, the group I love most. I have been to more than a
hundred university campuses around the country, including the most prominent
ones such as MIT, Yale, Brown and so on, doing seminars and I always promote
our Fudan 7926 as the best Fudan has ever had.
Now we have a J.D. to add to our 7926's list of Ph.D.s and numerous Master's
Degrees. After discussing it with Jesse and Lian Hui, I believe it would be
most appropriate to have it in early Feburary. I have tentatively made the weekend
of Feb. 7 and 8 as the reunion time. I sincerely
hope all our 7926 folks can make it and stay overnight at my house.
12-4-2003 -- Luan Wen Bai:
Congratulations Qi Qi on your great accomplishment. As part of "7926 little
bones", I am proud of you. Now you've made it really difficult for us to find
decent excuses for not moving forward:)
Dear 7926 folks, I will be back to Shanghai for vacation from 12/06 to 12/19.
If there will be a classmates' informal gathering in Shanghai during that time
period, I am more than happy to join. Please let me know by calling 68736272.
Thanks and you all have a wonderful holiday season.

Zhouxin is telling you
2-21 - Lian Hui:
Qin Zhou Xin's article is breathtakingly powerful and his tone is deeply touching.
During the minutes of reading it, my mood went through the transformation from
a carefree chuckling to a penetrating sadness. Inspired by his tone, I wrote
and share with you the following, in memory of what we lost through fate and
in celebration of what we gained through God's grace in the form of friendship.
Along with the humorous face
Rests the sombre voice,
Behind the loudest laughters
Buries the quietest tears.
Hope is born on the shore of the mourning eyes,
In the eyes of mourning the land of dreams begins!
Though speaking no accurate Cantonese,
I fully grasp the meaning in gain and loss.
The most sacred wishes
Will be answered by the power of prayers.
The most haunting dreams
Will be blessed by God's grace.
Thanks everyone for the friendship. Thanks God for having us come across each
other in the journey of our life.

Since the reunion in February, our forum has been quiet for some time. I guess
there is not much news to report. Not intending to create news, I just wanted
to let everyone know that I have set up my own law office since April. For the
past couple of months, I had been buried in the work of setting up a new office.
Now that everything is settled in its place, and I have a website to show for
it, I can announce it to my fellow 7926 folks. There is a lot going to be added
to the website in the future, particularly Chinese version part. And I have
expanded my areas of practice into criminal defense, civil litigation, personal
injuries, and international business transaction and litigation, which I hope
will be develped significantly in the future.
Any comments and feedback on my website are welcome. You will see the Chinese
name in the near future.

Hi, Steve (Qi Qi): Congratulation on the setup of your new office. I like the
style of your website: simple and harmony in color and style.
Steve, Yes, simple and harmony, that's my immediate reaction too when I first
time surfed your website. I like this style. Next time when we go to LA, we
will stop by your office to say hi. Congratulations!

Lian Hui, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I quite agree with you and appreciate
your kindness towards the terrible event. That article is obvious radical, sharing
it with you is for a chance of viewing things from a different angle around
us. I often get this kind of readings from my friends.
Yeah, Chinese New Year is almost here. Bit rainy in Shanghai. You guys (girls)
are not homesick? Hehe. Happy New Years to all of my 7926 Classmates!

Attached please find Tian Ya's picture in his recent visit to Washington, DC.
It was very nice to see Tian Ya after more than 22 years. We had no trouble
to ID each other. He continues to be the youngest in our class.:))
Tian Ya now is an officer for International Fund for Agricultural Development
(a mini World Bank) specializing in North Korea and Bhutan. He is a proud father
of two lovely children. His daughter is 10 years old, and his son is 5 years
old. He and his family is living in Rome since 1993.
Tian Ya is such a good driver that he drives daily in Rome. If you don't fully
appreciate what that means, just read his comments on Washington D.C.'s traffic,
which was viewed as being "orderly and decent" by Tian Ya. Washington D.C. has
always been ranked as one of the three worst areas to drive in the U.S. To me,
driving in Rome would be an achievement I would only dare to fantacize in my
next life.

It's that time of the year again! I guess everyone is busy with his or her life
and doesn't have much time to reflect on what the past year has given to us.
Well, I guess I am not going to do much thinking or reflection either, at least
for now, just want to wish everyone a jolly happy holiday!
I still remember the last Christmas we 7926ers spent at Fudan, when Xiao Shi
was our Santa. We had great fun then.
I will be going back to China in early January, and will stay in Beijing and
Shanghai for several days. If anyone could give me the e-mail list for 7926ers
in China, I would be able to send them a message and hopefully have a get together
with them. I haven't seen many of them for quite a long time. Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year!
12-23-05 - Tian Ya
Greetings from Rome! As Xmas is approaching and 2005 will soon come to an end,
I would like to wish all of you and your loved ones the best in the holiday
season. May the New Year of 2006 be an ever more successful and brilliant one
for you.
12-24-05 - Lian Hui
I am following QQ and Tian Ya's lead to wish you all a merry Christmas if you
are a Christian, a happy holiday season if you are a seculer fellow, a happy
Hanukah if you happen to date someone Jewish, a great Kwanzaa if you happen
to be in Africa, and a Haly Raya if you recently converted to Islam. Last but
not the least, have a joyful new year filled with health, prosperity, love and
charity.

Thanks for the greetings from Lian Hui, Tian Ya and QQ.
The year 2005 has been eventful for us: Ding departed the National University
of Singapore where he has served for 13 years to join the Sophia University
as a tenured professor in its Faculty of Liberal Arts (www.fcc.sophia.ac.jp).
The wonderful experience in Singapore will always be part of our treasured memory.
Ding's new email address is ecslud@yahoo.com and his office phone no. is 81-3-3238-4067.
(His Singapore email account ecslud@nus.edu.sg will be invalid soon)
We would like to express our best wishes for a joyful holiday season and a happy
new year ahead to all 7926ers and families.
